Claire Pettibone Fall 2013

I still can't get over the flower petals strewn all over the runway at the Claire Pettibone Fall 2013 show! In fact, the whole night was all about flowers. Amazing flowers in the models' hair and floral motifs on the gowns.
One thing you pick up on right away in Claire's design style is her embellishing. She pushes the envelope when it comes to embellishing a wedding gown. Filled with ribbons, draped pearls, flower accents, and embroidery. To some, it can seem like it's a bit much, but that's what makes Claire Pettibone's dresses unique. Love.

My Favourite Trends at Bridal Fashion Week 2012

I've been glued to Twitter the past few days taking in all the magnificent gowns from the Bridal Fashion Week which ran from Oct. 12 to 15 in New York. I noticed some beautiful trends that I am excited about as a designer. When wedding dress designers push the envelope, it allows veil and accessory designers like myself to do the same.
One always up for surprising us is Vera Wang. She created an all white collection after two white-free seasons! Ha ha ha. Totally Vera.
This year we had recurring themes we love; dresses with sparkle, lots and lots of embellishments, and amazing textures. My favorite top two trends are the illusion necklines and dresses with sleeves.

Feature - ribbon headband

A local Toronto bride recently rush ordered this ribbon headband. She called me to see if I could make it in a week as her wedding was two weeks away. I was happy to oblige. She wanted to have the headband in off-white to match her dress. Most of the orders I normally receive are for white or ivory. I know a lot of brides are not sure of the color differences when it comes to: white, off-white, light-ivory, dark-ivory, and antique-ivory (note-to-self: do a post about this).

When I was done making the piece,I managed to free up my schedule to deliver the headband in person because she works close to where I live. She loved it. I was happy with the way it turned out too. Here's the piece:

Loveliness Feature

Recently, I made a birdcage headband for a bride.

The idea and overall design was based on three requests from the bride:
1. the netting should not cover the eyes
2. a few feathers on it
3. a small flower with great dimension

This is what I designed and handmade for her. I'm happy to say she loved it. It's gorgeous isn't it?
